“I am a storyteller at heart, filmmaker by choice, and an artist by default.”
I am Vikram Bhatti, Mumbai based, artist, author, poet, and filmmaker. From what I have overheard my friends and family complain, I am highly opinionated, hold strong views, and am always picking holes in the progressive ways of the world. In my defence, all I am left to say is that I am an artist, I have refined taste, and I don’t buy crap easily.
Perhaps, from this disposition came the first book that I have authored, The Sellout Nation – India’s tryst with Globalisation. The book was born out of my wonderment of how, just four decades after Independence, the western powers had once again taken control of India, this time in the name of Globalisation? What turned out is a humorous political satire, with spoof characters and a highly animated storyline. Do give my book a chance and support a new author. Know more about ‘The Sellout Nation’.
I also write poetry, and by habit, I write in rhyme. It’s an added challenge to a challenge that I already find very challenging. To me, poetry happens in bursts. Sometimes, stumbling upon a single rhythmic line could lead to a spring of twenty poems, and sometimes it’s just an everlasting dry spell. You can read some of my poems here.
I’m hugely interested in art. Though I cannot sketch, let alone draw a straight line, I have found my expression in collage making. I use paper, a pair of scissors, and glue to create my art. You can check out some of my collages here.
Apart from my creative interests, I am a filmmaker and the creative head of Marathon Films, Mumbai. I direct TV commercials and Digital content. My recent social media campaign, ‘The Faith Runner’, won gold in the Social Media category at the Muse Creative Awards, Portland, USA, and was adjudged finalist in the New York Advertising Festival Awards 2018.
I also collect matchboxes and love to sweat it out in the squash court.
